Sanders Wilhelm
As the son of a builder, learning construction started early for me. Originally from Roanoke, VA, I discovered my passion for cabinetry and woodworking during my time at Appalachian State University where I studied sustainability and building science. Following graduation, I had the privilege of working in a high-end architectural millwork and cabinet company, laying the foundation for the quality craftsmanship that now defines my own business. In typical young adult fashion, my career path took a few turns along the way, giving me the opportunity to broaden my base of construction experience while exploring new interests and places. I moved from the mountains to the beach to join a small design/build firm in Emerald Isle where I managed operations of their custom built beach homes. Young and always eager for the excitement of change, my next career adventure brought me to Richmond, where I learned the ins and outs of site work… and met Angelique. After years of laying the groundwork while working for others, in 2017 the time felt right to take the plunge and pursue my dream. S. L. Wilhelm & Co. was born, and I have never looked back!
You will often find me in the shop or on-site at a project, tool belt around my waist. When I’m not hard at work, I enjoy trail running, mountain biking, and being a spectator at our kids’ various sporting events.
Angelique Wilhelm
Born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, the serenity of University of Richmond’s idyllic campus lured me away from the hustle and bustle of NoVa. As much as we thoroughly enjoy our visits to family and all that the D.C. area has to offer, Richmond has been home ever since! While earning my undergraduate degree in Spanish, I spent a semester abroad studying at the Universidad de Sevilla in southern Spain. After graduation, I pursued a long-held interest in healthcare, enrolling at Virginia Commonwealth University where I completed a B.S. and M.S. in nursing, specializing in pediatric primary care. My next ten years were spent working as a pediatric nurse practitioner in a busy private practice before retiring that role to stay home with the kids. A few years later, when Sanders embarked on his dream of starting S. L. Wilhelm & Co., I was excited to join him. I have always been passionate about home renovations, and, while Sanders most definitely brings the necessary construction expertise, you’ll often find me collaborating on design, shopping for selections with a client, or responding to your texts and emails.
In my free time, I enjoy long walks, working in the yard, and reading. I also run a side gig driving the Wilhelm shuttle—no pay, but great benefits!
